Congratulations to all those who participated in the 2009 Ukrops Monument Avenue 10K. Team Ruck Cancer raised just under $1,000.00 in support of the Massey Cancer Research Center at MCV. Ruck Cancer is truly a grassroots effort to increase cancer awareness through the rugby community and to show support to fellow ruggers that have had their lives impacted by cancer. Since its inception, Ruck Cancer has raised over $2,500 in donations – all of which has gone directly to VCU Massey Cancer Center in Richmond, Virginia. Patrick Benner started the program when a few years ago his life was impacted by cancer and many shared in his experience and showed their support. Since then, he has crossed paths with many ruggers in the VRU that have had their lives impacted and/or changed by cancer. Some have survived, some are still fighting, and some have lost a loved one very near to them.
Cancer is a disease that has affected millions around the world and many within the rugby community. The Virginia Rugby Union would like to show their support for all those that have had their lives impacted by cancer and ask that you join us in our effort to increase awareness through out the rugby community and show our support for ruggers and their loved ones. Show your support today!
In 2008, the Ukrops Monument 10K was a large success as our team raised approximately $2500 to go towards cancer research.
